Building self esteem is about building a deep love and a deep appreciation for yourself. It has nothing to do with anyone else. A lot of people believe that our self esteem is measured by our popularity but it isn't.
Self esteem can only be measured internally. Regardless of what anyone says or does to you. It's how you internalize it that matters most.
Building self esteem is a journey not a destination. That's why you can't get there over night. I don't believe that you wake up one day with enough self love and acceptance to carry you through for the rest of your life.
It's a process that takes time, patience and energy. Trust me, even people with high self esteem feel down and out sometimes. It's not a catastrophic event or anything but they can still get their feelings hurt.
Or they can still beat themselves up for a minor mistake. I'm not sure if that ever goes away. Because every day is a new day and you cannot possible plan for everything that is going to happen to you.
But you can prepare. You can prepare by establishing a few habits.
Build powerful self talk
You can pretty much tell if your self talk is negative or positive based on how you feel the majority of the time. If your angry, sad or depressed most of the time then your self talk is negative.
Become aware of what you say to yourself and then work on replacing those old negative thoughts with more positive ones.
If you can get into the habit of talking to yourself with uplifting and powerful words when things are going right, you'll have a better chance at it when things are going wrong.
Your self talk is a very important part of your personal growth. You must have a positive conversation with yourself at least once a day in order to build that habit.
Expressing your true self
Do you express your true self most of the time or are you expressing a very small part of who you really are? Playing small doesn't do anyone any good.
God gifted you with talents and abilities that only you can share with the world. But if your holding back from fear of not be accepted by others then you're wasting the very things that make you unique.
That's why the very act of building self esteem comes from within. You know who you are on a deeper level and only you can make that deeper present to the world.
Only you can show the people around you who your truly are and what your destined to do. Don't hide or hold back from fear of rejection.
Do the things you fear most and you'll be able to overcome that exact fear. This is a habit just like anything else. And it's a very good habit to get in to.
Mastering your fears
The only way to truly master fear is to face it head on. That means you cannot hide from it and expect it to just go away. Because the more you hide from it the stronger it grows.
The only way to concur fear is to take action. That is the cure - action. You must take action when you're scared, unsure and fearful.
Every fearless action you take will be building your self esteem and then you'll know what you are truly capable of accomplishing.
If you never try anything that is new and different because of fear, you'll never know what your truly capable of. And who knows you may be capable of great and wonderful things.
So stop hiding. Concur your fear by taking action. Building self esteem is one of the best ways to accomplish everything your heart desires.
