How to look for work WITHOUT it damaging your self esteem.

Question

Hi, I just found this site and like it a lot. What is really bringing me down on myself is the fact that I am having such a hard time finding work.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and have never had any problems finding work. I have moved from TX to Colorado. Anyway do you know how to look for work with it damaging your self esteem (how you see and love yourself)?

Thanks Heather

Answer

Hi Heather and thanks for asking this question because this situation is affecting a lot of people right now.

First of all our economy has changed drastically in the last 3 to 5 years and in order for us to adjust we need to acknowledge the change.

The major change that I see is that job security is a thing of the distant past. We must create our own security by being personally responsible for our financial future.

Trying to find the job that best fits all your beliefs about job security, financial security, retirement, employer matching benefits will definitely bring your self esteem down.

The jobs just aren’t there.

My recommendation to boost your self esteem and your financial situation is to create an income source on your own.

You mention that you’re a licensed clinical social worker, then you could start your own practice. As a contract employee. Or you could create a website through SBI and become a social worker infopreneur. Sell your social worker skills electronically.

That's how you build your income and your self esteem. By acknowledging that times have change then by taking appropriate action to adjust and overcome the changes.

I hope this helps you Heather and the rest of you who are struggling to adjust to our new way of business that is taking a toll on your self esteem.

Best of luck to all,
Michelle
