I can't seem to let go

Question

Hey, I was just looking at your site because I have had self esteem issues since I was very young.

I've been VERY hard on myself. I have also been abused a lot! Now I'm trying to grow up and be the happiest me I can be.

It's very hard from all the emotional, physical and sexual abuse I have been through. I have been through counseling for years. But I can't seem to let go.

Can you give me some tips?

Answer

Hi Kim thanks for sharing a piece of you with us, that was very brave and it should serve as a foundation for you to build on.

So you've come to a place in your life where it's time to let go of the past and all your past hurts and move forward with inner peace and comfort...

Here are my top 3 letting go techniques that I would recommend that you start doing immediately -

- Journaling. This activity can help you get all your hurts, your thoughts, your experiences, your rage out of yourself and on the pages of your journal so you can move past them. Check out my journaling pages for more information about the personal effects of journaling.

- Start treating yourself with love, compassion, respect, and acceptance. This can be a simple "I love you Kim" in the mirror. This also means you have to stop any negative self talk and self punishment. You deserve to be treated better but you can't wait for someone else to make the first move. It has to start with you.

- Create a daily habit of feeding your mind with positive thoughts, words and images. This can be done by reading self help books, creating an image board and listing to self help tapes.

For more detail on any of these letting go techniques take a look around this site.

I hope you use this information to create a whole new life for yourself. A life filled with self love, self compassion and self acceptance.

Take care,
Michelle
