Question
How does a person with a learning disability go about raising their self esteem in that learning area?
Answer
To raise your self esteem in any area it takes practice and desire. Regardless if it's with a learning disability or a personal relationship.
So first of all I would recommend that you take inventory of your disability.
Is it noticeable to others or just yourself?
Do you feel embarrassed by it?
Do you feel like others look down at you because of it?
Are you focused on your disability or your abilities more?
Is there anything you can personally do to overcome your disability?
Is this a temporary or lifelong disability?
Really get to the heart of the disability and what it means to you. Because it doesn't matter what anyone except you thinks of it.
You will lower your own self esteem quicker and easier then any other person on this planet. I hope that last sentence is as liberating for you as it is true for you.
Your level of self esteem is based on how you see yourself. So try to focus more on your abilities then on your disabilities.
Take care,
