Change your thoughts - change your life

You are responsible for your own thoughts, feeling and actions. Regardless of what’s happening outside of you. Because it’s the reactions to the situation that sets all the thoughts, feelings and actions into motion.

But you have the power to decide what you’re going to think. You have the power to control yourself. Even in extreme situations you can choose to remain calm. Or you can choose to explode into anger.

It’s all controlled by your thinking. You must control your thoughts. And it’s possible by remaining present. By becoming acutely aware of your surroundings. By consciously following your breathe in and out.

Don’t let your mind take over the situation by allowing one negative thought after another to pop into your head. Stop the continuous negative thinking by becoming aware of yourself.

Once you can control your thoughts it becomes that much easier to control your feelings. Let me take a step back for a second and talk about the word control. I don’t want you to think of it as using a lot force. Think of it as letting go of force. To control yourself takes awareness not will power or force.

Okay now your feelings. Feelings are directly attached to your thoughts. Begin to notice in yourself how you feel when you’re thinking happy, healthy positive thoughts. Your probably energetic and bouncy.

Now picture yourself thinking negative, unhealthy thoughts. Not such a nice feeling is it? But once you’re able to see the difference you’ll be more aware of the thought-feeling connection and more able to control yourself.

This will determine your actions. Can you start to see how they are all related? Thoughts create feelings. Feeling create actions.

So if you’re the type of person who gets sad, irritated, or furious easily it’s because of what you think the situation means to you. Or maybe you’re someone who smiles, jokes and laughs a lot then you too are reacting to what you’re thinking.

I hope you can see how you can get control of your life now.

Dr. Wayne Dyer calls the process Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao. How very true is that?!

It’s so true that Wayne (ya, were on a first name basis) wrote a whole book about it. The book is based on the Tao Te Ching. It’s teaching are simple yet profound.

I will tell you though I have been studying personal development for many, many years and this book is solid in it’s teachings but poetic in it’s versus.

So thankfully Dr. Dyer starts each chapter with a verse by Lao-tzu from the Tao Te Ching and then explains what it means to live by the Tao.

I would highly recommend this book as a meditation tool. Read a verse, read the explanations then meditate on the lesson.

Good stuff!

Okay but for now the next time you are confronted with a situation that upsets you, STOP…and become aware of your breathing. Follow the inhale and exhale. Say to yourself...I release, I realize and I let go.

Now that you have control of yourself, take note of your actions. I can almost bet they are not what they used to be.

So smile and shack your body in the motion like water off a ducks back and move past your old negative thoughts, feelings and actions. You have started the process of self discipline.

Congratulations!
